Sylwia Kokoszka, Psy.D. (she/her) is a Postdoctoral Clinical Psychologist who has extensive training in clinical, hospital, and educational settings, which has prepared her to work with children and youth ages 3 to 18 and their families. Dr. Kokoszka uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, family systems, and attachment based therapy to support children and teens with ADHD, Autism, Anxiety, Depression, Mood Disorders, and relational stressors. She prides herself on developing a collaborative treatment approach which involves coordinating interventions to support her clients at home, school, and in the community. Dr. Kokoszka regularly communicates with parents, school staff, physicians, and allied professionals to support her clients’ treatment.
Dr. Kokoszka is dedicated to supporting neurodivergent youth—particularly those with ADHD and autism—through a compassionate, neuro-affirming approach that honors each child’s unique strengths. She enjoys helping children and teens by developing tailored strategies to support their learning, communication, and social development. She has been involved in every stage of care, starting with the assessment and diagnostic process and continuing through to the delivery of individualized and evidence based interventions. Her clinical experiences emphasize her dedication to providing culturally sensitive care to children, adolescents, and young adults with a strength-based focus.
Her practice focuses on helping young people navigate emotional and behavioral challenges, while supporting parents in building healthier, more connected family systems. With experience in both clinical and school settings, she has supported children struggling with navigating big emotions, social stressors, school refusal, learning differences, and other challenges that can impact development and daily functioning. Dr. Kokoszka believes that parents are integral to treatment outcomes and therefore, she includes parents in all phases of therapy by coaching parents on how to support interventions, as well as improving communication and strengthening bonds with their children. She sees families as partners in the therapeutic journey and strives to engage parents in ways that empower both them and their children.
Ms. Kokoszka graduated from Roosevelt University’s Clinical Psychology program, with a specialization in Clinical Child and Family Services. She completed her APA Approved
Pre-Doctoral Internship at South Campus Therapeutic Day School in Palatine, Illinois. During her training, she worked in various settings (inpatient behavioral hospital, medical specialty hospital, outpatient diagnostic clinic), providing therapeutic, assessment, and consultation services to promote youth academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support. She is excited to bring her skillset to serve clients at Tompkins and Associates!
