High-quality assessments can provide answers to questions that clients and families have regarding their child’s functioning and diagnosis. We provide comprehensive neuropsychological assessments for a wide range of presenting challenges, including:

  • ADHD
  • Learning Disabilities
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Anxiety
  • Mood and Depressive Disorders

Our psychologists are uniquely qualified to assess young children, as young as 2 years old, through young adulthood. This allows us to catch developmental or neurodivergence early and to assist families with securing early intervention therapies.

When children and adolescents struggle in school, it can be emotionally challenging for them and their parents. Academic challenges can impact school performance, social interactions, behavioral issues, and self-esteem. Using the highest quality assessment measures, our psychologists assess for learning disabilities, attention deficits, and emotional issues that can impact learning.

The team at Tompkins and Associates is a trusted partner with several local school districts and educational advocates. Our psychologists are contracted by local school districts and educational advocates to conduct comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations to support students’ in their care. When we partner with school teams on behalf of a student, our evaluation provides valuable information about a student’s strengths and weaknesses, as well as information to guide academic and social/emotional interventions delivered within the educational setting. Several psychologists on our team are credentialed as both Clinical Psychologists and School Psychologists. This unique training allows our psychologists to provide families with recommendations that are appropriate to the school setting as well as guidance through the 504/IEP process.

Assessment Appointments

What to expect during the assessment process
The first appointment is with the parents to gather a full developmental, family, and academic history of your child. During this appointment, we will also hear all of your concerns and ask many questions about the symptoms you are observing. We will gather releases of information to obtain information from others ,including school teachers or counselors and pediatricians or medical providers. We will answer all of your questions about the assessment process during this appointment as well. During this appointment, the psychologist is gathering information in order to refine the assessment and determine which testing measures will be used.

The second appointment typically lasts several hours and is with the child or adolescent being evaluated. We will conduct a clinical interview with the child, engage in a play-based assessment when appropriate, and work together to complete several interactive assessment measures. Additionally, parents and teachers (when appropriate) will be asked to complete rating scales about the child’s behaviors.

Once all assessment measures are completed and data is gathered, the psychologist will write a comprehensive and detailed report including a description of the test results, information about diagnoses, and recommendations for interventions within the home, school, and community settings. We will then meet with parents (and teens when appropriate) to review the results of the evaluation and the recommendations. During this appointment, we will answer all of your questions and provide you with all necessary referrals to other providers and interventions. After the assessment is complete, we continue to be available to your family as a resource as you begin navigating the complex world of accessing services and scheduling further treatment with other providers.
